Finding the right toothbrush can be overwhelming as you browse through the hundreds of selections at your local grocery or pharmacy store. The aisles are filled and you can’t remember exactly which one your dentist recommended. Carolina Dentistry @ The StateLine has a few suggestions to help you find the toothbrush best suited for you.

In general, find a toothbrush that you can hold with ease and that is small enough to reach your most posterior teeth without triggering your wonderful gag reflex. Your toothbrush should fit easily in your hand. For children age recommendations are typically labeled on the toothbrush packaging.

What about the bristles? We always recommend a soft bristled toothbrush to help prevent gum and tooth structure damage. A hard bristled brush can cause damage to the gum tissue resulting in recession. A hard bristled toothbrush along with whitening toothpaste could also potentially scratch porcelain veneers.

When it comes to the shape of the head of the toothbrush choose the one that is most comfortable for you. Sometimes you have try out a brush and decided if it does a great job at cleaning your teeth. Try to think comfort and ease of use when you select your toothbrush.

Finding a right toothbrush best for you can seem like a tedious task for some. Remember, find a toothbrush that is easy for you to hold, soft bristled and one that can easily reach all of your teeth.
